On today’s episode of the Small Business, Big Deal podcast, our guests are Annie Rector and Kristin Hems of Third Avenue Events. They met at a third-party event planning company and enjoyed working together. Eventually, they decided to go into business together.
“Kristin is an entrepreneur at heart. She is always thinking about the next big idea,” said Annie.
Third Avenue Events offers a wide variety of services – meetings, tradeshows, incentive programs and more. The goal is to reinforce a brand’s core values and messages to ensure each event leaves a lasting impression.
Kristin was inspired to start her own business after watching her mother be an entrepreneur. What she needed was someone who could balance her ideas and make them a reality.
“I needed an Annie to my Kristin to make sure I didn’t fail consistently,” said Kristin.
Before starting Third Avenue, Kristin worked with her mom and learned more about running a business, including HR, taxes, finances, interns, 401K and other aspects.
Kristin has a lot of experience in incentive programs, specifically reward type programs in automotive and corporate world. Annie’s experience is in user group meetings. They both have had to learn other skills around vehicle launches and PR programs.
Kristin and Annie knew they were really good planners. They were nervous about starting their own business, but they felt like failure was never an option for their business. They also figured out early on what they knew and what they didn’t know.
